The Rector of Epoka University, Prof. Dr. Remzi Altın, participated at the International Symposium titled “Alevism and Bektashism in the context of the Debate on Religion and Identity”, organized on May 15, 2013, by Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, in Çanakkale, Turkey.
The Symposium focused on the development of Alevism-Bektashism as a distinct order within the Muslim faith as well as on the historical and sociological consequences of its development and expansion principally in Turkey and the Balkans. Bektashism has had a historical presence in Albania and the country bears one of the highest percentage of Bektashis among its population.
During his speech held on this occasion, Prof. Altın touched upon the unifying function that universities should carry out and emphasized the importance of the Symposium by stating that divisions are in fact unnatural developments created by human beings themselves. At the end of his remarks, Prof. Altın also stated that Epoka University would be pleased to organize in the future such a symposium that places human aspects at the forefront.
