The Rector of Epoka University, Prof. Dr. Remzi Altın participated on March 29. 2013 at 2nd Conference on Educational Sciences titled “Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education”, organized by Hëna e Plotë – BEDËR University in Tirana. Proceedings of the conference were greeted by the President of the Conference, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology and Education, Dr. Ahmet Ecirli, the Rector of Hëna e Plotë – BEDËR University, Dr. Ferdinand Gjana, the Rector of Epoka University, Prof. Dr. Remzi Altın and the Director of the Institute of Education Development, Dr. Tidita Abdurrahmani.
In the opening ceremony of this conference the Rector of Epoka University, Prof. Dr. Remzi Altin in his address thanked the organizers for the kind invitation and stressed the importance of the amazing and ever-increasing development and innovation in ICT as an instrument that should be used to its fullest potential to serve to the objective of enhancing the quality, efficiency and transparency of the education process. “All universities should promptly respond to these changes by updating their curricula and teaching methods so as to be able to raise graduates with critical thinking, problem-solving and work-in-group capabilities that are in high demand by the modern labour market. The active incorporation of ICT into the teaching process will greatly contribute to raising graduates with the above-mentioned qualities”, Prof. Dr. Altın said.
The Rector of Epoka University also shared with the with the participants some of the developments in the field of ICT at Epoka University and also the very positive impact that such innovations have had on the functioning of the institution. “At its establishment stage, Epoka University placed a special emphasis on the widespread use of information technology in the daily operations of the institution. To this end, up-to-date web-based services were adopted and implemented, concerning both students and academic staff. In this framework, students can reach their course program, course curriculum, absence rate, as well as their grades both through computers and electronic information kiosks located at the University”, Prof. Dr. Remzi Altın said. According to him the widespread use of information technology is one of the reasons that Epoka University has ranked highly among Albanian universities in the various widely cited web rankings, most notably Webometrics. “Based also on our experience, it is my deep belief that all Albanian universities should place even greater emphasis on the information technology aspect of their activities, to ensure both an improvement of their teaching activities and other operations, as well as to gain more international visibility”, he said.
Prof. Altın concluded his speech by emphasizing that the active incorporation of ICT into the teaching process will greatly contribute to the objective of raising graduates with qualities that are in high demand by the rapidly changing labour market such as rapid problem-solving, critical thinking and work-in-group capabilities.
2nd Conference on Educational Sciences: Information and Communication Technologies in Education brought together academic scientists, leading engineers, industry researchers and scholar students, which exchanged and shared their experiences and research results about all aspects of Educational Sciences and Technology, and discussed the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted in this field.
