The Centre for European Studies organized the 3rd open EU lecture, delivered by the honorable guest speaker, Ms.Ina Xhepa, the Executive Director of the European Centre.
Ms.Xhepa has been part of the European Centre since March 2016. She is a lawyer with expertise in Human Rights, Constitutional Law, and European Law. Ms. Xhepa is an assistant lecturer of the Constitutional Law and an external OSCE expert in a project which is focused on the administrative justice. She was a study visitor of the Registry of European Court of Human Rights working for the Albanian team and a national consultant of UNDP, OSCE, KAS, Civil Rights Defenders etc.
Her discussion was oriented toward the Instruments of EU on Development of Democracy and protection of Human Rights. The discussion started with a brief explanation regarding the sources of the European Union and the main instruments for developing and implementing human rights and democratization. The guest gave a thorough understanding of all the legislative and executive institutions, the council and the commission, the role of the European courts involved in the process of decision-making when it comes to issues of fundamental human rights. As part of the forum, she discussed with the students three real cases discussed by the respective European courts mainly focused on definition and interpretation of human rights and dignity when it comes to privacy and personal data collection. To conclude, Ms. Ina emphasized once more the value of human rights and dignity as main conditions for EU integration.
