Approximately 200 scholars and academic researcher from different Balkans and European countries are participating in the 2nd International Balkan Annual Conference IBAC 2012 titled "The Balkans at a Crossroads: Evaluating the Past, Reading the Present, Imagining the Future, which will be held on October 10-13, 2012, in Tirana Albania and is organized by University of Instanbul in collaboration with Epoka University and University of Tirana.
Proceedings of the conference were greeted by the Rector of the Epoka University Prof. Dr. Remzi Altin, Rector of the Istanbul University Prof. Dr. Yunus Söylet, Rector of Tirana University, Prof. Dr. Dhori Kule, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, his Excellency, Hasan Sevilir Aşan, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Albania, Myqerem Tafaj and other organizers and supporters.
Prof. Dr. Remzi Altin, Rector Epoka University, appreciated the importance and contribution of the conference on cooperation between Balkan countries and especially academics in the region. He said that the collaboration in such levels with the participation of hundreds of researchers and academics are a good sign for the development of common perspectives in the Balkan region. According to Prof. Dr. Remzi Altin the Balkan region is a significant example of hundreds of years of different peoples and cultures and such organizations serve to the construction and consolidation of a common perspective.
Prof. Dr. Remzi Altin said that Epoka University is a promoter and supporter of international conferences, that serves as a bridge between academics in these countries. According to him a week before Epoka University was the coorganizer of another conference on the Balkans.
The Rector of Istanbul University, Prof. Dr Yunus Söylet said that this is the second conference organized by Istanbul University after the first conference organized last year in Skopje, Macedonia and will continue in the future years. He said that the Balkan experience is the best example of coexistince of people with different cultures leaving together in peace here for years.
Meanwhile the Rector of the University of Tirana, Prof. Dr. Dhori Kule thanked the participants in this conference and expressed the belief that such events serve as a bright perspective for the Balkans acedemics and people.
The opening of the conference was welcomed also by the Minister of Education and Science, Mr. Myqerem Tafaj, who described as very positive initiative such cooperation between universities. He praised the cooperation between universities. According to Mr. Tafaj, Epoka University is a private university that is showing a very rapid development setting the standard in Albanian universities system.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, Hasan Sevilir Aşan praised the excellent relations between the Republic of Turkey and the Balkan countries, especially with Albania. He confirmed the support of his country in the field of education and other sectors.
