Epoka University successfully convenes the 5th International Conference on European Studies (ICES'15) titled “Perspectives of Integration in the European Union: The Balkans’

Epoka University in partnership with other well known universities in the region, convened the 5th International Conference on European Studies (ICES'15) titled the “Perspectives of Integration in the European Union: The Balkans’”. The conference started on the 6th of November with the opening ceremony at Tirana International Hotel which hosted a panel of distinguished academic personalities and governmental leaders of policy making, chaired by the rector of Epoka University, Prof. Dr. Gungor Turan. The co-chair of the conference, Assit. Prof. Dr. Salih Ozcan and at the same time Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Epoka University, welcomed all participants in his opening speech and invited them to discuss their recent works on the Balkan region and the road to integration. The speech of Assist. Prof. Dr. Salih Ozcan was followed by Mr. Kristaq Birbo, Executive Director at Atlantic Council of Albania who mainly focused on the integration challenges and responsibilities of the Balkan region into the North Atlantic Alliance by also presenting a summary of the institutional projects held through years.

The opening ceremony was also honored by the ambassador of Poland in Albania, his excellence H.E. Marek JEZIORSKI, Deputy foreign minister of foreign affairs, Dr. Odeta Barbullushi and the Minister of Integration of the Republic of Albania , Ms. Klajda Gjosha who all fully confirmed the support of academic endeavors in providing role models for European Integration. The conference keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Hanappi, concluded the opening ceremony with his research on what he called as “ The Political Economy of Subsidiary: The Balkan States as Part of Europe. ”

The following sessions of the conference continued until the next day at the campus of Epoka University, where eighty researchers from Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Italy, Bulgaria, Turkey and United States discussed their ideas and methodologies from social, economic, political and cultural perspectives.

The conference was financially supported by three distinguish business companies in Albania ,Zeus Hotel, Gener 2, Ande LM, and Univers Promotion who share a common responsibility on the duty to be positively involved in our country’s integration process.
