Epoka University students on Mock Electoral Debate organized by U.S Embassy

A group of six students from the Bachelor Program in Political Science and International Relations took part in the Mock Electoral Debate, which was organized on November 5, 2012, by the U.S. Embassy in Tirana with the participation of two teams representing Epoka University and European University of Tirana.

Students from Epoka University during this debate defended the stance of the Republican candidate, Governor Mitt Romney, on foreign policy issues. The Mock Electoral Debate was moderated by a US Embassy Officer, and was in the same format with three presidential election debates, which took place before the elections in the United States of America.

At the beginning of the Mock Electoral Debate, Epoka University students expressed their and Epoka University’s staff regret and condolences for the victims caused by Hurricane Sandy.

The Debate focused on five main areas i.e. both candidates’ stance on the changing Middle East and the challenges that arise from terrorism, Afghanistan and Pakistan, the tension between Iran and Israel, the challenges associated with a rising China as well as the U.S.’ role in tomorrow’s world.

At the end of Mock Electoral Debate, Epoka University students thanked the US Embassy for the hospitality and the organization of such an activity, conveying the values ​​of democracy and political culture of the United States of America in our country.

Epoka University students were led by the Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Assist. Prof. Dr. Salih Ozcan, Director of the Center for Europian Studies, Assist. Prof. Dr Bekir Çınar as well as lecturers Reina Zenelaj and Niuton Mulleti.

U.S .Embassy staff invited Epoka University’s students and lecturers at the electoral breakfast, which was held at Rogner Europapark Hotel in the morning of November 7, 2012. Students and academic staff had the opportunity to attend live together with the embassy staff and many invitees the Republican candidate and re-elect President’s speeches as well as the remarks of the U.S. Ambassador to Tirana Mr. Alexander A.  Arvizu on this occasion.
