Celebrating the first day of summer, March the 14th, has become a tradition in Albania. Besides Elbasan in the centre of festivity, with their famous ‘ballokume’ biscuit, massive organizations took place in Tirana as well. Mother Tereza square exhibition was themed ‘Live Eco, feast Eco’ and gathered many organizations and operators with stands focused on recycling activities and recycled items.
Epoka University students clubs produced and exhibited berries and flowers planted on plastic bottles, live graffiti and live ebru. An attraction to the public was two lemon trees planted bench made of tires, therefore completely eco friendly. The rationale of Epoka stand was to convey the message that through some basic unused elements completely new and useful elements can be produced. This process enhances creativity especially among children, educates citizens and creates an environmentally better future for the coming generations.
During the event Epoka kicked off a solidarity fund. Thus some items exhibited at the stand were sold at symbolic prices and the funds are to be used for projects on vulnerable groups welfare. A donation was made from the Minister of Youth and Social Welfare, Mr. Erion Veliaj, who praised Epoka students on the good job and bought graffiti exhibited at Epoka Stand. The Mayor of Tirana, Mr. Lulzim Basha and her little daughter got an interest on the plastic bottles planted with flowers as well.
The stand was visited by professionals that were interested on interior design to be provided by Epoka University students for their private and business environments, as well as a publisher willing to showcase the items exhibited in a professional magazine.
Grounded on Epoka philosophy of ‘education-research-contribution to society’ this day will be remembered by the students participating as joyful. Student enjoyed live music and cycling along the boulevard that for that day was free of any vehicle. They definitively shared and took away the enthusiasm and the eagerness of Tirana citizens to lean about eco living.
