On February 26, 2015, The Atlantic Council of Albania organized its 18th Annual International Conference ‘NATO in the face of the recent Euro-Atlantic Security Challenges’. Speakers from Albania, Italy, Greece, Ukraine, Moldova, and the region, Montenegro, Macedonia, Kosovo participated in the conference. Attendees were security experts, students, representatives of the diplomatic services in Tirana, military officers, professors, members of the Atlantic Council of Albania, journalists, etc.
The opening remarks were conducted by the President of the Atlantic Council of Albania, Dr. Arian Starova, through welcoming all the participants and speakers of the conference. Following, Mr. Starova elaborated several aspects of NATO’s partnerships by focusing on three main areas: first, a historic view on the emergence of NATO’s partnership policies,
second, an overview on the successes of the partnership policy in twenty years
and finally, the future of the NATO partnerships as a key policy for the NATO’s cooperation.
On the occasion, As. Prof. Dr. Bekir Çinar, Director of the Centre for European Studies at Epoka University based in Albania, presented a concrete overview of terrorism as a security threat by going through its definition, causes and roots. The presentation attracted the attention of the participants and was awarded as the best presentation of the conference.
