Among 12 participating teams in the “International Design Competition on the Osumi Island in Berat”, UNLab+Openfabric+CoRDA was selected the winner. This decision was based on the criteria of project clarity, professional composition of the team and the proposed methodology.
This team’s proposal was valued especially for its holistic approach on the Osum River and its environmental issues, which are offered a series of solutions using natural methods. The treatment of the island was conceived considering these methods along with its future influence on the urban structure and life of the city.
The competition was launched in February by the Urban Development Ministry, National Territorial Planning Agency and Atelier Albania, aiming to explore ways to be resilient towards natural phenomena by using the island as a test-site.
Following the framework of local and international studio collaborations, CoRDA participated in the competition with UNLab and Openfabric, two studios based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This process was assisted also by TU Delft, through experts of water resource management.
