July 23rd, 2014
Almida Kaziu and Violeta Dimitresku, 3rd year students of the Department of Civil Engineering, in July 7th 2014 participated at “2nd Interational Summer Conference of Civil Engineering Students 2014” known as ISUCCES 2014 in Osijek, Croatia. They presented their study “Earthquake Resistant Design Building. Lessons Learned From Past Earthquakes” that they had prepared under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Bilgin.
ISUCCES is organized every year by the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Osijek, Croatia and gathers all graduate and undergraduate civil engineering students, to participate in a five-day-program consisting of challenges and representation of their research work. The aim is to express, share and explore the engineering world of these students. 2nd ISUCCES 2014 gathered 20 teams from Macedonia, Croatia, Albania, Romania and Turkey.
During these five days the students presented their research works that would afterwards be published at Electronic Journal e-GFOS Special edition 2014 and also tested their built models in the shaking table. The models were tested in the shaking table under the simulation of three earthquakes, El Centro, Northridge and Banja Luka. The evaluation of the model is based not only on the resistance towards the earthquakes but also on the design, material used and neatness. In the testing procedure the model build by the students had a very good response to the simulated earthquakes surviving all three of the above mentioned earthquake without any crack.
