On October 14, 2013 academicians from Epoka University participated at the seminar on the Protection of Human Rights and the role of the Ombudsman, an initiative of the Polish Ambassador in Tirana, and with the support of the Polish Human Rights Defender and the People’s Advocate of Albania. This aim of this activity was the creation of an international forum to share experience on the degree of respect of human rights and the role of ombudsman institutions in its protection.
The audience was addressed by the Chairman of the Assembly of Albania Mr. Ilir Meta, the Ambassador of the European Union to Albania Mr. Ettore Sequi, Professor Irena Lipowicz, Polish Humans Rights Defender, Mr. Igli Totozani, People’s Advocate of Albania.
The seminar was divided into several sessions, covering the most important topics in the field of human rights in modern civil society, such as strengthening of the protection of human rights and the role of the Ombudsman and the cooperation of this last one with the civil society.
The seminar was very productive as the participants shared the different perspectives on the degree of human rights respect in the Albania and Poland as well as the contribution that the civil society has as the ears and eyes of the government among people.
